Frequently asked questions
Why should I hire you? This should be something I can do myself.
Give yourself a break! It is ok to be overwhelmed by your stuff and to need to ask an outside person with the skills to help you get back on track. I will be there with you to tackle your challenges and make the process easier and more pleasant. At the same time, I will give you hints and tips so you can learn the tricks of the trade to manage your systems in the future. People hire personal trainers to help them with their fitness goals. Professional organizers are like personal trainers for your stuff.
What do you charge? Or what will it cost me?
I charge by the hour or sell organizing packages. What will determine how much you will spend is mainly in your hands. If you make decisions quickly, if interruptions are kept to a minimum, and if you do work on your own between sessions, your goals can be met more quickly.
Are you going to tell everyone about me?
No, I adhere to the NAPO Code of Ethics and the ICD Code of Ethics.
How do I know it will work?
Getting organized can be a long process. It is a lot like eating an elephant; you can only do it one bite at a time. I will help you prioritize your goals, and we will make a plan to help get you there. You will know it is working when you feel more relaxed, less overwhelmed, and more able to focus on the things in your life that matter most to you.
Are you going to make me throw everything away?
No, I don’t “make” people do anything. But if choosing to donate, gift, recycle, or trash something will get you to your goal, I will encourage you to do it. If you use it, need it, or love it, I encourage you to keep it.
Do I need to buy anything before you come?
No, purchasing and organizing products are almost the last step. First, we need to sort, categorize, purge, and then we decide the containers. There is a good chance we can use much of what you already own.
What is a Professional Organizer?
According to the National Association of Productivity & Organizing Professionals, Professional organizers use tested principles and expertise to enhance the lives of clients. By designing custom organizing systems and teaching organizing skills, they help individuals and businesses take control of their surroundings, their time, their paper piles, their lives! www.napo.net/our_profession/
What do I do next?
If you are ready to get to work, give me a call at 512-925-2962 or email me at Jennifer@JenniferLava.com with times when I should call you.
